Our Network
RailTel has access to right of way for optical fiber cable network along 67,415 route kilometers over railway tracks and has high capacity optical fiber cable network along 61000+ route kilometers connecting 6100+ railway stations.
RailTel’s optical fiber network is designed in defined hierarchical form with core, distribution and edge layers. RailTel’s optical fiber based communication system comprises of various technologies and is capable of delivering telecom services to customers with high service level agreements. RailTel offers high capacity bandwidth of up to 800G at 60 locations in India.
RailTel has built its optical fiber cable network across cities and towns in India to provide end-to-end bandwidth services through leased circuits, MPLS-VPN ports or Internet bandwidth ports.
RailTel has also entered into agreements with telecom companies and MSOs to lease bandwidth and offer last mile optical fiber cable network connectivity across cities and towns in India. In addition, RailTel provides NLD connectivity for Indian Railways exchanges on NGN technology.
RailTel’s pan-India network comprises various technologies including next generation network, packet transport network, dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and IP-MPLS that are maintained by its network operations centers (NOCs) at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Secunderabad to provide VPN, point-to-point leased line to enterprises, public sector banks, defense organisations and educational institutions. In addition, we have a central NOC located at New Delhi that monitors entire the pan-India network.
RailTel’s transport network is built on high capacity DWDM and an IP-MPLS network over it to support communication requirements of the Indian Railways and other key customers. While RailTel utilizes a number of advanced technologies to deliver services and operate its network, it intends to continue to invest in our network and technology infrastructure, to improve its existing technology systems or implement new, more advanced technology systems that may be developed.
RailTel is also working towards creating and upgrading backhaul network with DWDM system to meet bulk bandwidth requirements of over-the-top players.
RailTel has built state of the art backbone network using latest SDH technology. More than 400 important cities covering over 28,000 RKMs across the country are connected on backbone network with STM-16 (2.5 Gbps) connectivity presently.
Backbone network have been configured in multiple ‘self healing’ ring architecture which provide for redundancy by automatically redirecting traffic away from failed/ de-graded route for fault-free service. The network supports SNCP and MS-Spring protection schemes. The network has been designed in such a way that full redundancy is available for bandwidth between any two points.
The complete network is managed by centralized network management system (NMS) located at New Delhi with back up at Secunderabad / Kolkata. RailTel has got the unique advantage to meet the quality bandwidth and service requirements from single network. The state of art network enables point and click provisioning of the bandwidth from any where to any where in the country. It enables provisioning of traffic of any granularity with the extensive reach from any part of the country to any other part.
RailTel network is managed and monitored by RailTel Engineer from four Regional NOC at New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai & Secundrabad.
One of the objectives of formation of RailTel was to spread telecom revolution in the remote and backward areas of the country by building state of the art multimedia network. We have also built our optical fiber cable network across cities and towns in India to provide end-to-end bandwidth services through leased circuits, MPLS-VPN ports or Internet bandwidth ports. RailTel is also responsible for upgradation of RailNet over a WAN by providing centralized mailing system and security systems through the supply, installation and commissioning of IP-MPLS network at divisions, zones, production units and central training units of the Indian Railways. We provide IP-MPLS and internet bandwidth connectivity at multiple locations of the Employee Provident Fund Organisation in India and also provide operations and maintenance services for bandwidth connectivity services. We offer our MPLS based VPN services to enterprise customers including small and medium enterprises, educational institutions and banks and financial institutions primarily aimed at enhancing their business performance. Our customers also include the Indian Railways and other public sector undertakings. We have a 24/7 customer MPLS based Network Operation Centres at New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Secunderabad, with a central NOC at New Delhi .
RailTel’s pan-India network comprises various technologies including next generation network (“NGN”), packet transport network, DWDM and IP-MPLS that are maintained by our network operations centers (“NOCs”) at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Secunderabad to provide VPN, point-to-point leased line to enterprises, public sector banks, defense organisations and educational institutions. With its PAN India NLD network, RailTel will be able to carry calls to even the remote and rural parts of the country. All major telephone exchanges of the Indian Railways are connected with NGN technology.
RailTel provides tower collocation, rack and space utilization, dark fiber, tele presence, data center services and operation and maintenance of railways fiber pursuant to our IP-1 registration granted by the Department of Telecommunication, Government of India.
RailTel offers its existing nationwide network of microwave towers and other structures to wireless communications providers that enables them to provide cellular, high-speed data and other wireless communications services.
RailTel also offers colocation facilities to telecom operators for mobile BTS and small cell sites. RailTel manages towers of the Indian Railways that are used to provide tower colocation facilities to telecom operators for mobile BTS. The towers available are ideally placed at central locations in cities, towns and rural areas providing coverage to wide population in such areas. These towers have capability to support multiple BTS colocations. Micro BTS concept requires only a pole mount in the case of 3G/4G BTS. RailTel also provides pole mount facilities at our PoPs on rooftops of buildings and stations. The sites are equipped to provide fiber based redundant backhaul capacities and offer 24x7 power supply, shelter and security.
RailTel’s pan-India network comprises various technologies including next generation network (NGN), packet transport network, DWDM and IP-MPLS that are maintained by our network operations centers (NOCs) at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Secunderabad to provide VPN, point-to-point leased line to enterprises, public sector banks, defense organisations and educational institutions. In addition, we have a central NOC located at New Delhi that monitors entire the pan-India network.
